Affordable Care Act

Hub Definition: Shorthand name for legislation signed into law by President Barack Obama in March 2010.  The legislation sought to increase healthcare access and quality, expand workforce and preventive health, and address other shortcomings of the U.S. healthcare system. Known in full as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and, colloquially, as Obamacare, it represented the largest overhaul of the U.S. healthcare system since the passage of the Medicare and Medicaid programs.
