Summary
Thursday, October 24, 2019, marked the one year anniversary of the passage into law of the Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment (SUPPORT) for Patients and Communities Act – the major federal legislative package addressing the opioid epidemic.
In observance of the anniversary, the Wynne Health Group produced the attached chart capturing a section-by-section update on the implementation status of the various health-related provisions of the law. This includes key rulemaking and guidance effectuated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regarding Medicare and Medicaid programs; provisions addressing the manufacture, prescribing, disposal, and diversion of opioids by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA); and updates on the development and issuance of various public health grant programs. Statutory deadlines are delineated where implementation is still pending.
