Summary
To conclude a busy few weeks of opioids-related action in Congress, the Wynne Health Group created a newly updated chart, which describes each of the bills addressing the opioid crisis that have been advanced to the House floor as of May 18, 2018.
The bills reflected in the chart were advanced in three separate markup sessions in the House Energy & Commerce and Ways & Means Committees. The Energy & Commerce Committee convened first on Wednesday, May 9 and advanced 25 bills (background memo; details), and then completed its work in a second markup, advancing an additional 32 bills on Thursday, May 17 (background memo; details). The Ways & Means Committee approved its own group of eight legislative measures at a markup on Wednesday, May 16 (details).
These bills will presumably inform the creation of a larger opioids legislative package, which is expected to receive consideration on the House floor in early-to-mid June. Parallel efforts in the Senate continue, though floor action is not expected until after the midterm elections for the upper chamber.
