Summary
The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 (P.L. 116-260), signed into law by President Donald Trump on December 27, 2020, included the No Surprises Act – a comprehensive package aimed at protecting patients from surprise medical bills.[i] Patient protections, along with new coverage requirements and balance billing prohibitions, go into effect on January 1, 2022. With implementation underway, the Wynne Health Group prepared this issue brief to provide a roadmap for anticipated rulemaking by the Departments of Health and Human Services (HHS), Labor, and Treasury and oversight activity in 2021 and beyond. We also delineate new requirements for providers and facilities as well as insurers.
